Spanish passion and German entrepreneurial spirit: Carlos Schönig, born in Frankfurt but with Spanish heritage as well, knows how to combine hard work with an appreciation of the finer things in life — for him: wine, football, family and friends. After an apprenticeship and several years working in the supermarket industry, he switched over to the wine industry in 2005.
To his joy and amazement, he found such pleasure in wine in his work as a buyer for Global Wines and a juror for the Berlin Wine Trophy that he and his best friend Jean-Pierre Berlejung founded their own commercial trading firm: Bottle Shock GmbH. Their Frankfurt wineBANK represents the realization of one of the duo’s long-held dreams. As club manager, Carlos Schönig is the first point of contact for wineBANKers in Frankfurt.

Born in 1974 in Frankfurt, Jean-Pierre Berlejung visited the same boarding school as his business partner and best friend Carlos Schönig. A passionate football fan and equestrian, he initially trained to work in accounting and is today the managing partner at Objekta Treuhand GmbH, which manages more than 100 properties in the Rhein-Main area. Berlejung – like Carlos Schönig – has served as a juror at the Berlin Wine Trophy. Following his passion for fine wine, he and Carlos Schönig founded Bottle Shock GmbH in 2011. The duo composed a portfolio of wines reflecting their own love of diverse tastes — world-class wines and renowned estates alongside Bottle Shock’s own house brands. The concept also fits the wineBANK model perfectly. Jean-Pierre Berlejung is responsible for sales and administration.
